Coaster service was interrupted Thursday morning when a person was struck and killed by a northbound train in Encinitas.

The unidentified person was hit just south of the Encinitas station around 8:25 a.m.

The train usually arrives at the station at 8:30 a.m.

The person was trespassing on the train tracks according to coaster officials.

The train traveling from Oceanside, #644, was canceled this morning. Coaster employees don’t believe the accident will affect service for the rest of the day.
