A Coaster train fatally struck a pedestrian on Thursday afternoon, according to the sheriff's department.
The incident happened shortly before 1:40 p.m. when a northbound train hit a man on the tracks near Ponto Drive and Carlsbad Avenue.
Officials found a car nearby, which they believe belonged to the victim.
The medical examiner has been called to the tracks to remove the body and officials are investigating at the scene.
Coaster and Amtrak trains have resumed service.
