A 67-year-old man was crossing the street in Poway when he was struck by a car Monday evening.

Authorities with the San Diego Sheriff's Department said the man ran across Community Rd. near Metate Lane and wasn't paying attention to the oncoming traffic when a Jeep hit him.

The Jeep was not speeding, and the man crossed near an intersection with a sign that read "No Pedestrian Crossing," witnesses told investigators.

The man was sent to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, which included a moderate laceration to his head.

The investigation is on-going.
