Man Walking Under the Influence Struck by Car

A pedestrian under the influence of alcohol was struck after walking in front of a moving car in Rancho Penasquitos Wednesday night, police confirmed.

Police said the collision occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Rancho Penasquitos Road and eastbound State Route 56. The 51-year-old male pedestrian walked in front of a moving 2006 Mazda and sustained serious head trauma.

Medics transported the man to Scripps La Jolla for treatment. Police said he is in critical condition.

The 36-year-old driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and was questioned by police.
