Girl, 3, Struck by Car in Front of Her Fallbrook Home

The girl had cuts to her neck and head but the injuries were not life threatening, CHP officers said.

A 3-year-old Fallbrook girl is recovering in the hospital after she was struck by a hit and run driver Monday night.

CHP investigators say the girl was standing in front of her home at 910 Vanita Street when the accident happened just after 9 p.m.

Just moments before the crash, the girl's parents were standing in their driveway talking to friends.

The neighborhood is densely populated. The streets are poorly paved and narrow with no street lights.

CHP officers said the girl had cuts to her neck and head but the injuries were not life threatening.

“I can't believe it. I can't believe someone would hit a little kid and just take off," said neighbor Michelle Woodbury.

She added that having kids of her own, she could imagine what the toddler's parents were going through.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Fallbrook fire station just down the street. From there a helicopter flew her to Rady Children's Hospital where she was recovering Tuesday morning.

Witnesses say the girl was hit by a light colored SUV or sedan.

The vehicle was driving northbound on Vanita Street but did not stop.

One witness said the vehicle had no license plates. No one was able to identify the driver or even give a description.

CHP Investigators interviewed family and other people inside the victim's home at the time of the accident.

They searched for evidence but found very little in the street where it happened.

Neighbors told NBC 7, there are lots of kids that live on Vanita Street and cars constantly speed up and down the area.
