Wife Dies in Labor, Pastor Gets Support from Across U.S.

Gracin is only a couple days old, but he's already fulfilling a void in his father's life

A San Diego man who should be spending time getting to know his new baby boy, is instead planning his wife's funeral, after she died giving birth to their second son.

Letta Anglin, 28, died Sunday during childbirth. Her baby, Gracin, survived. Doctors had to resuscitate him after he spent five minutes without oxygen to his brain. He’s recovering at Rady Children’s Hospital.

NBC 7's Nicole Gonzales spoke to the father TJ Anglin Tuesday night.

“We're going to call him Gracin because we need grace in this situation,” Anglin said.

Gracin is only a couple days old, but he's already fulfilling a void in his father's life.

“I told my 5-year-old that Gracin is a gift from Mommy and we both need to take care of him,” Anglin said.

Home video shows Letta walking up and down the stairs, trying to induce labor, one day before she died.

On Sunday, something went terribly wrong.

“She cries out my name and I ran to her. Then she starts fading out,“ Anglin said.

Anglin said doctors worked to revive Letta. At the same time they worked on Gracin. Anglin said the baby was gone for at least five minutes before they revived him.

Anglin say he believe in miracles, especially since he's a Pastor at Redemption Church in San Diego.

He's also a big believer in social media. He's used the tool to elicit prayers for his wife and their new son.

The support is pouring in nationwide because of the video he posted on Facebook.

“My question to myself is how do you find is any type of peace, how do you find any type of hope or anything,” Anglin said.

For now though, Anglin is putting on a brave face, while beginning a new life without his only partner

“We lived life together. We did everything together…..She was my best friend.”
