Padres Win, Have A Chance To Sweep

Friars Take First Two From The White Sox

The Padres are currently playing their 18th series of the 2014 season. For just the second time, they've given themselves a chance to earn a sweep.

The Friars beat the White Sox 4-2 at U.S. Cellular Field, their second straight win on the south side of Chicago. The only other time this year they've taken the first two games of a series was back in mid-April against the Giants (they lost the third game).

Outfielder Will Venable had a great day at the plate. Will went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in. This one day raised his season average from .194 to .213.

Starting pitcher Tyson Ross was super duper. Ross threw six innings, striking out five and allowing one earned run to get his sixth win of the season.

Ross turned it over the bullpen for another dominant performance. Nick Vincent, Joaquin Benoit and Huston Street each threw a scoreless, hitless inning, with each guy using 13 pitches to do it. Street got his 17th straight save.

Eric Stults takes the mound on Sunday to try and complete that long-awaited sweep.
