Amid the many changes the Padres made in the off-season was a complete overhaul of the catching corps. The only player on the roster who has caught even one inning in a Padres uniform is 37-year-old Wil Nieves, who was behind the plate for 27 games way back in 2002.
The new starter is Derek Norris, who came to San Diego in a trade with Oakland. Norris was an All-Star for the A’s in 2014. He talked to NBC 7’s Derek Togerson about his skill set, getting to know a new pitching staff, and of course, the power of a good beard.
