Padres' Ross Has Shoulder Surgery

Pitcher Expected Back By Spring Training

With all the Padres' starting pitchers who've gone on the disabled list with major surgeries the last few months (Casey Kelly, Cory Luebke, Joe Wieland, Jason Marquis, Clayton Richard) the last thing Friars fans want to hear is another hurler went under the knife.

But, this time it's probably going to be alright.

Padres starting pitcher Tyson Ross underwent surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder on Thursday. He needed an arthroscopic procedure to clean up the labrum, an injury he suffered way back in April swinging the bat against the Dodgers.

Ross is expected to be 100% ready by the time pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in February.

After joining the starting rotation for good in July, Ross was one of the Padres' most effective starters, making 13 starts and going at least 6.0 innings in all but two of them.

Ross led the rotation in earned run average and opponents' batting average and finished third on the team in strikeouts.
