Padres Rookie Shines In Loss

Rookie catcher Eddy Rodriguez homered in his first major league at bat, but it wasnt enough as the Padres lost 9-4 in Cincinnati.

Apparently the Padres win on Monday was just a bump in the road for the Reds. Cincinnati took the next three in convincing fashion. Thursday's 9-4 win made it 20 wins in the Reds last 23 games.

On a positive note Padres rookie catcher Eddy Rodriguez got the thrill of a lifetime. After spending all six years of his professional career in the minors, two in an independent league, Rodriguez homered in his first big league at bat. Oddly enough Rodriguez was a 20th round draft pick of the Reds.

The Padres start a 6-game home stand Friday. The Mets are in San Diego for a three game series followed by the Chicago Cubs. Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey is scheduled to start Friday night. His 14 wins is tied for best in the majors this season.
