When the Padres face a Cy Young Award winner, they have a pretty good chance of winning that ball game.

After beating Barry Zito and the Giants 4-1 on Monday afternoon at Petco Park, the Padres have now beaten five different Cy Young Award winners in 2013 (Zito, CC Sabathia, Tim Lincecum, Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw). They actually have a winning record against guys who have been voted the best pitchers in the league.

Of course, they're 0-2 against Brandon McCarthy, who's only won 3 times and has an ERA just under 5.00, but let's take the little victories where we can get them.

Zito allowed four runs in four innings to his home town team. The Padres scored three runs in the 2nd inning on RBI singles by Ronny Cedeno and Chris Denorfia.

Nick Hundley capped the San Diego scoring in the 4th inning with a solo home run, his 11th of the year.

The win pulled the Padres out of last place in the NL West and in to a tie for 4th with the defending World Series champion Giants.

They can put San Francisco in the cellar alone with a win on Tuesday night. Robbie Erlin takes the mound against fellow lefty Madison Bumgarner.
