Padres Hang On In Seattle

The Padres scored four runs in the sixth inning and held off a Mariners late rally to win 5-4.

It was a good night for Richard (3-7) and the Padres bats. The lefty went seven innings allowing just one earned run for his first road win since last July.

Cameron Maybin broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a sharp single up the middle to score Yonder Alonso. Nick Hundley followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1. Maybin came across the plate on a wild pitch from Fernandez (4-5) to give the Padres yet another run. After Everth Cabrera tripled to bring in Hundley the Padres had a 5-1 advantage.

The Mariners mounted a late rally by scoring three runs in the ninth. But Houston Street got Jesus Montero to ground out to end the game and record his sixth save. The Padres won game one of the three game series 5-4.
