Padres Finalize Opening Day Roster

25-Man Team Has A Couple Of Surprises

The Padres beat the Indians 9-8 at USD's Fowler Park in their final Spring Training game of 2014. Chase Headley and Seth Smith hit home runs and Yonder Alonso had a 3-run double in their tune-up for Sunday's Opening Night match up against the Dodgers.

So, all those exhibition games are over. Let's do this for real!

The game, the Padres made a few roster decisions to get down to the 25-man Opening Day roster.

Xavier Nady and Tommy Medica won the final bench spots, leaving fan favorite Kyle Blanks as the odd man out. Blanks was optioned to Triple-A El Paso.

The Padres had room in their outfield because they placed outfielders Cameron Maybin and Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list. Right-handed pitchers Casey Kelly, Josh Johnson and Joe Wieland were also sent to the 15-day DL.
