Padres Earn Rights To Korean Pitcher

New General Manager Already Playing To His Strengths

New Padres General Manager A.J. Preller is known for his ability to sign international talent. It didn't take him long to start bringing more diversity to Petco Park.

Or, at least, try to.  For $2 million, the Padres have won the bidding for South Korean pitcher Kwang-Hyun Kim, giving them 30 days of exclusive negotiating rights with the 26-year-old lefty.

Kim has a low-90's fastball and a good, hard slider but does tend to walk a lot of hitters and has an injury history.

If the Padres can work out a deal with Kim, he'll become the second player from the Korean Baseball Organization to come to the United States through the posting system. The first was Dodgers lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu.
