Dozens ‘Paddle Out' for Seau

Surfers took to the water in Oceanside Sunday to honor Seau's memory

San Diegans took to the water on Sunday in remembrance of hometown hero Junior Seau.

Dozens of locals brought their surfboards to the south side of the Oceanside Pier in Oceanside, near the former Charger’s beachfront home.

The group that gathered paddled into the water at 12:45 p.m. as a way of honoring Seau and showing community support and solidarity for his family.

Those who didn't paddle out paid their respects from the boardwalk, and many of them wore Chargers #55 jerseys.

There has been an outpouring of love for the former San Diego Chargers icon since he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound last week in his Oceanside home.

On Saturday, fans held a special moment of silence at 5:55 p.m. for Seau, in honor of his Chargers jersey number, 55.
