Overturned Truck Spills Oil Onto SR 78 in Ramona

Crash happened at about 8:15 a.m. near Orosco Truck Trail and Guejito Truck Trail

Officials shut down several lanes of State Route 78 in Ramona Saturday morning after a 50-foot box truck crashed and spilled oil onto the roadway.

A truck hauling vegetable oil crashed at about 8:15 a.m. in the westbound lane of SR 78 near Orosco Truck Trail and Guejito Truck Trail.

Oil began leaking from the truck onto the roadway shortly after the crash.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene to clean up the oil.

Medical crews were requested for the truck’s driver, though no injuries were reported. The driver’s condition was not immediately known.

Authorities shut down SR 78 lanes in both directions at about 8:36 a.m. because of the oil spill, CHP officials said. A SigAlert was also issued.

Officials had not yet determined the cause of the crash.
