Woman Escapes Otay Mesa Mobile Home Fire

A South Bay woman escaped without harm after her home caught fire early Thursday.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to the Ocean Bluffs Mobile Home Estates on Del Sol Boulevard at 5 a.m. Thursday.

The framing was all that was left of the front of Sarah Erman's home.

But, despite the loss, she is still finding a bit of hope.

"This will be a new beginning," Erman told NBC 7.

A new beginning of sorts, as Erman gets ready to celebrate her 80th birthday in just four days without a home.

"I only have so much hair to pull out. I mean what else can I do, I have to," she said.

One thing she does have is a great support group of friends.

"Someone gave me a new cell phone, clothes, food," she said. "People have been just wonderful."

Neighbor Sheilah Martinez said the fire started with a loud explosion.

San Diego police said there was someone taken into custody who had a restraining order against the property.

Neighbors say the former tenant was evicted from the home and threatened to torch the home.

Officials said the cause was left undetermined with no evidence to prove exactly what caused the fire.
