Motorcyclist Hits Hydrant, Dies in Rancho Bernardo Crash

The victim, Brian Jones, 38, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the deadly crash, officials confirmed Saturday

Authorities have identified the motorcyclist killed after crashing into a fire hydrant in Rancho Bernardo; investigators say he was not wearing a helmet.

San Diego resident Brian Jones, 38, died Friday night when he lost control of his motorcycle while trying to maneuver a turn in the 18600 block of Caminito Cantilena. Jones hit a curb, lost control, drifted across a landscaped area, struck a fire hydrant and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to a report released by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's (ME) office.

After he flew off his motorcycle, Jones struck a parked car. The ME report said Jone was "un-helmeted" at the time of the collision.

Witnesses at the scene told NBC 7 that the crash caused water to spew from the fire hydrant. Upon spotting the geyser, witnesses saw Jones lying in the street.

Good samaritans came to Jones' aid, with one bystander giving the victim CPR while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Jones was unresponsive, officials said.

No one else was hurt in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and no further details were released.
