An Oregon man died Sunday after a collision on State Route 94 sent his convertible over the railing and onto Spring Street, California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed.
The crash happened at around 8:14 p.m. when the 1998 red Chevy Corvette convertible was traveling westbound on a SR-94 overpass near the SR-125 interchange side.
The Corvette was traveling at a high rate of speed and sideswiped another vehicle, CHP investigators said. The convertible driver lost control and struck a concrete wall.
The vehicle continued over the wall and crashed 70 feet onto Spring Street below the highway, CHP officers said.
The driver, who CHP officers say was not wearing a seat belt, died in the crash. He was identified as a 24-year-old man from Eugene, Oregon.
The other driver, a Spring Valley man, was not injured. He called 911 and stayed at the scene.
The CHP is still investigating what caused the collision.
