Chula Vista Resident Dies in Rollover Crash

Chula Vista resident Demetrius C. Ingram, 22, was killed in the crash on Olympic Parkway on Nov. 25

Officials have identified the 22-year-old man who died in a rollover crash Friday in Chula Vista, confirming the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the deadly collision.

The San Diego Medical Examiner's (ME) office said Chula Vista resident Demetrius C. Ingram was killed in the collision, which happened at around 11:50 a.m. in the 700 block of Olympic Parkway. Ingram had turned 22 just three days before his death, the ME report said.

The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) said Ingram had been driving his sedan at a high rate of speed, westbound on Olympic Parkway, just west of Heritage Road when he rear-ended a small SUV and spun out.

Ingram's sedan then struck the SUV a second time, veered off the road and crashed into a palm tree. Ingram's car split into two pieces, the wreckage landing in a ditch near the road.

According to the CVPD, Ingram was ejected from the car and pinned underneath it. He was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital with major injuries  where he died less than two hours later.

No one inside the SUV was injured, police said.

Officers at the scene reported a smell of marijuana coming from the car but police said it is unknown if it is related to the crash.

Police shut down all westbound traffic on Olympic Parkway and Heritage Road. The road closures snarled traffic and lasted several hours while officials collected evidence from the crash and worked to clear the scene. The road was reopened by 5 p.m.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CVPD at (619) 691-5151.
