A CHP Officer conducting a traffic stop Monday night reported seeing an individual with a rifle near the freeway.

The sighting at about 8:15 p.m. prompted a search in the area around Paradise Hills, near SR-54 at Woodman St., according to authorities with the CHP.

The subject was reportedly seen in a backyard on the north side of the freeway near Parkside Ave. and Morton Way.

Authorities discovered shortly after the incident was reported that the gun was a pellet gun, not a rifle. The person told police he was using it for target practice.

Both the San Diego Police Department and the CHP searched the area.

    There were no injuries.
