Trying to get ahead in the workplace? Then it might be time to cave to office politics, according a new survey by staffing firm Robert Half International.

More than half of workers interviewed said involvement in office politics is at least somewhat necessary to get ahead.

"There is some degree of politics at play in virtually every organization," said Max Messmer, CEO of Robert Half International, in a statement.

More than 400 office workers were asked, "In your opinion, what effect, if any, does involvement in office politics have on one's career?"

Around 15 percent of workers said office politics was very necessary to get ahead, and 41 percent said it was somewhat necessary.
