Oceanside DMV Evacuated

The Department of Motor Vehicles office in Oceanside was evacuated Thursday for a suspicious device.

At 11 a.m., a California Highway Patrol Officer leaving the DMV noticed an ammunition canister set next to his patrol vehicle that was not there when he went inside the building.

The officer checked surveillance video and noticed a man left the canister near the vehicle.

The office was evacuated as a precaution and the San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson team was brought in to investigate.

After X-raying the canister, investigators said they believed it was not an explosive device.

They opened the item and found computer hard drives inside, according to CHP Officer Lt. Charles Leonard.

No injuries were reported. No one was arrested.
