With the sunny San Diego summer around the corner, two wheels and the snap of spandex are calling your name. Make sure your tire pressure is steady and get all the gear you need at these local north San Diego cycle shops, frequented by avid cyclists and beach cruiser babes and featured on Yelp.

    Pacific Coast Cycles (Oceanside)
Chuck Hoefer bought the shop in 1977 and has taken exceptional care of local cyclists ever since! He’s known as a talented custom wheel builder and his shop offers a hefty stock of road bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers, tandems, children’s bikes and plenty of cycling apparel. On-site services include frame prep, derailleurs, fixes and conversions. Plus, the mechanics here are familiar with bike parts from vintage to modern.

    Carbon Connection Cyclery (Carlsbad)
Owned by brothers Steven and Robert Holland, this high-end bike shop carries trusted brands like Focus, Colnago, Masi and Sram. The Hollands honed their passion for the sport and stock selections based on their own experiences. Carbon Connection Cyclery boasts all the mountain and road equipment you’ll need, plus a huge selection of cyclocross, track, road and mountain tires.

    Nytro Multisport (Encinitas)
If you take cycling to the triathlon level this is the shop for you. Nytro can help you with components and parts to build your bike to race perfection and specialty gear like nutrition carriers, cycling shoes and hydration systems. “Triathlete Magazine” calls Nytro “the Mecca of Triathlon Gear" and the knowledgeable staff is on hand to get newbies on the road or take pros to the next level.

    El Camino Bike Shop (Encinitas)
Need a bike shop for the whole family? This is the place! Riders of all levels will find a huge selection at this Encinitas gem, open since 1972. The range of products is extensive, from Electra beach cruisers to Haro BMX, mountain and street bikes. El Camino's website is full of useful information on bike maintenance and can help you purchase the perfect set of two wheels through a drop-down menu dubbed “What Type of Rider Are You?”

    Ranch Cycles (Rancho Santa Fe)
If you’re in the market for a custom-built road bike with excellent service (we’re talking a 24-hour turnaround), head to Ranch Cycles. This shop is picky about the products it stocks, choosing only the highest tried and true road, mountain, track, hybrid and kids’ bicycles with brands like Pinarello, Merckx, BMC, and Assos. The shop’s Facebook page has the latest happenings and details on new items, plus patrons give this place five stars on Yelp.
