Ringing in the new year will be a bit easier for those looking to take a train or bus in the North County.

Officials with the North County Transit District announced Wednesday they will offer free rides on trains and buses for New Year's Eve starting at 6 p.m.

The free rides will be offered on Breeze buses, the Sprinter light rail and Coaster trains, transit officials said.

For the second year in a row, an extra Coaster train will be added to the scheudle and will begin departing from San Diego’s Santa Fe Depot at 12:45 a.m.

The Sprinter train is also scheduled to run an extended service between Oceanside and Escondido on the hour, according a media release. The service will begin at 5:33 p.m. in Oceanside and 6:33 p.m. in Escondido.

San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System is also offering extended trolley service in order to help North County residents make it to the city by adding locations.
