Motorcyclist Hurt in Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run in Sabre Springs

The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. Friday on Evening Creek Drive North and Sabre Springs Parkway

A DUI suspect struck a young motorcyclist in the Sabre Springs area Friday night and then fled the scene of the crash, police confirmed.

The hit-and-run happened just before 9:30 p.m. at 13400 Evening Creek Dr. N, near Sabre Springs Parkway. San Diego Police Department (SDPD) Officer Robert Heims said a 21-year-old man was on his motorcycle stopped at a red light when a woman driving a white minivan made a right turn onto Evening Creek Dr. N and crossed into the opposite lanes.

The woman – identified as Maria Ramirez, suspected of driving under the influence – struck the motorcyclist head-on. She then drove off.

The motorcyclist suffered bone fractures and other injuries. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Police said Ramirez’s minivan sustained major damage to its front and its windshield in the hit-and-run crash. The car was discovered by police a short time later, deeper inside the Sabre Springs Business Park area.

Ramirez was arrested by police shortly thereafter. She’s facing charges of felony DUI and hit-and-run, Heims said. The crash remains under investigation.

No one else was hurt. Evening Creek Drive N. was closed in both directions and southbound Sabre Springs Parkway was also closed at Carmel Mountain Express Drive for two hours following the collision.
