A man armed with a handgun robbed a Winchell’s Donuts shop in Miramar on Saturday morning, San Diego police said.

At about 5:10 a.m., the suspect entered the 24-hour donut shop at 6912 Miramar Rd. through the rear door, following a 21-year-old employee who was taking out the trash, said San Diego police Officer Frank Cali

The suspect, described as a black male wearing baggy blue jeans and a baggy, gray hooded sweatshirt, displayed a handgun and proceeded to take money from the cash register along with the employee's money and identification.

The unknown suspect fled through the back door of the shop.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 540-8477.
