MiraCosta College Hires New Volleyball Coach

MiraCosta College has hired one of the top high school volleyball coaches in the country to take over a women’s volleyball program that hasn’t competed in more than 20 years.

Kristen Wright has coached at Tri-City Christian School in Vista since 2006, leading her team to CIF championships every year she has been there. She takes over a team that will play for the first time since the school dropped the program in 1992.

“I want to build a championship program and I want to build a reputable program where the kids are cared for as people on and off the court,” Wright said. “I think we can help build a really great culture here.”

Wright was named among the top 30 coaches in the country who are under 30 years old by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2012. She also coaches at the San Marcos-based SoCal Volleyball Club.
