Ex-Cop Sentenced for Stealing Drugs from Evidence Room

Numerous police employees were listed as witnesses in the case

The former Carlsbad police detective, who admitted to stealing heroin from the department's evidence room, will not serve any time behind bars.

Michael Koch was sentenced to three years probation Wednesday for a felony charge of second-degree burglary.

Koch, 44, pleaded guilty last month after co-workers reported seeing him steal the drugs from the police evidence room in January.

Koch was also ordered to complete a drug treatment program, and go under review by the judge every four months.
