Meth Ring Suspects Appear in Court

Three people accused of funneling drugs through a summer camp appeared in court Monday.

Spencer Edmonds, Joe Bean, 52, and Vincente Garcia, 41, each pleaded not guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and transporting a controlled substance.

Mission Bay Sports Center owner Jason Boone, 40, and several others were arrested last week after a year-long drug investigation called “Operation Boone’s Farm.” Boone and two others, Susie Macias and Michael Gifford, 41, pleaded not guilty during court appearances last Friday.

The beach business rents water sports equipment and runs a popular summer camp. But prosecutors said it was also the center of a sophisticated drug ring. According to officials, they discovered methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana and prescription pills during a raid at the business last Thursday. They also found $48,000 in cash, a bullet proof vest and a loaded .22 handgun.

If convicted, the suspects face between 16 months and 10 years in prison.

A preliminary hearing for Edmonds, Bean and Garcia is scheduled for June 20th.
