Two suspects detained. one outstanding near Imperial Beach schools, authorities believe

A home invasion in Imperial Beach led to the precautionary lock-down of several schools Wednesday morning.

Mar Vista Middle School on Thermal Ave. was placed on lock-down at about 7:45 a.m. as a precautionary measure, Sheriff's deputies said.

Several other schools in the surrounding area were also placed on lock-down shortly after the invasion was reported. The schools placed on precautionary lock-down included Southwest High School, Godfrey Berry Elementary School, Mendoza Middle School and Emory Elementary School.

The lock-down followed an invasion of a home in the 700 block of Calla Ave. Sheriff's deputies say the victim was at home when three suspects entered and punched the victim in the face. One of the suspects reportedly had a hammer in his hand.

At 9:15 a.m., two female suspects were detained and the man with the hammer was  still outstanding.

Sheriff's deputies believe the suspects knew the victim.

Authorities set up a wide perimeter around the school, but the lock-down order was lifted at about 8:45 a.m. By 9 a.m., police activity started to disperse.
