Man Tries to Shoot Brother, Shoots Self

A Vista man, apparently trying to shoot his brother in the face during a fight Monday night, shot himself instead.

Terry Brill, 60, lives with his brother Michael, 59, in the 1600 block of North Santa Fe Avenue in Vista.

When deputies arrived to the home Monday after 11 p.m., they found Terry Brill injured with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Deputies said Terry Brill held a loaded double-barreled .38 caliber "Derringer" type pistol inches from his brother's face and pulled the trigger.

The gun didn't discharge despite two tries, according to deputies.

When Terry Brill pulled the gun toward him to investigate, the gun fired, shooting Terry Brill in the hand, deputies said.

He was treated at Tri-City Hospital, released and promptly booked into jail facing attempted murder charges.

Deputies say the shooting appears to have stemmed from an alcohol-fueled argument between the two brothers.
