Man Stabbed in Otay Mesa Park

A man playing basketball in a neighborhood park was stabbed three times with a screwdriver Saturday San Diego police said.

Two men, described as in their early 20s, by police were playing basketball on the courts at Silverwing Park in Otay Mesa.

The park is located south of Palm Avenue and east of Montgomery Middle School near the rec center of the same name.

A group of other men walked up to the game and started arguing about some stolen property according to police.

When the argument got physical, one of the two men playing basketball was stabbed in his back, side and arm with a screwdriver.

He was transported to a nearby local trauma center with non-life threatening wounds officials said.

Some of the suspects took off in a dark Nissan van and the others fled on foot.

San Diego police said its Gang Unit is investigating the stabbing.
