LA's police chief said Wednesday he supports a proposed federal ban on the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines.

A man was shot in the neck early Sunday morning when he said a car pulled up to his vehicle on southbound Interstate 805 near Imperial Avenue and fired rounds into his car.

The 19-year-old arrived at Paradise Valley Hospital in Alta Vista where San Diego police officers recorded the incident at 4:39 a.m. His condition is unknown.

The victim had two passengers, neither of whom were injured. He has since been transferred to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

There is no suspect description, and San Diego police's gang unit is investigating.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Officer David Stafford or Crime Stoppers at 888-540-8477.
