Man Shot in Lemon Grove

Two suspects were arrested for shooting victim multiple times

A home invasion and shooting took place in Lemon Grove Sunday night, reported the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. A male victim was shot and is currently in critical condition.

Yesterday at 10:16 p.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Station responded to a call about a shooting at the 1800 block of Bakersfield Street. Witnesses said they heard gunfire and then saw male suspects with firearms fleeing. One witness allegedly punctured the suspect’s car tire to prevent a getaway.

A deputy responding to the call heard the sound of a vehicle driving on a flat tire from a distance away. After setting up a high-risk vehicle stop, two individuals were taken into custody. Two guns were found inside the car. The suspects have been identified as father and son, Gregory Alan Jewell, 49, and 22-year-old Joshua Alan Wineski, according to the sheriff’s department.

The male victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Officials suspect robbery as the motive. Detectives from the Lemon Grove Station are actively investigating the shooting.
