Mechanic Killed at Point Loma Auto Shop

A 63-year-old auto repair mechanic was fatally shot in the chest Tuesday morning at his Point Loma business.

Jalal Abou, who went by Joe, was shot at Joe’s Auto Repair at 1930 Rosencrans St. shortly before 7:30 a.m.

Passing citizens administered CPR, and paramedics assumed their efforts upon reporting to the shop before he was pronounced dead at the scene

Raad Hannosh, Abou's nephew, said Abou lives in Rancho San Diego but is originally from Baghdad.

"He was very good person," Hannosh said. "He should not have (had) enemies ... I don't know what happened. I have no idea."

Abou has a wife, a son and two daughters, one of whom is soon to be married, Hannosh said.

Local business owners described Abou as an "angel" and a "joy of a man."

Homicide detectives are searching for a male suspect described as having short-cropped hair and driving a dark-colored sedan.
