Man Shot and Killed in Logan Heights: PD

A pedestrian walking in Logan Heights late Saturday night was shot and killed by a man who drove up and opened fire, San Diego police said.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:57 p.m. near South 31st Street and Martin Avenue.

The victim, who has not been identified pending family notification, was walking south on 31st Street when a car stopped at the intersection, police said.

A passenger got out of the car and opened fire on the victim, shooting him multiple times, police said. The victim collapsed in the street.

Residents in the area said they heard six shots fired.

The passenger got back in his car and fled the area in the same car.

When first responders arrived, they began life-saving measures. The victim was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center where, despite life-saving measures, the victim died.

Police do not have a clear description of the suspect or vehicle involved.

The homicide shook the neighborhood.

Hector Robles, a Logan Heights resident, said he generally feels pretty safe in the area, day and night.

"I’ve been living here for almost 45 years and we haven’t seen any shots or anything going on," he said. "I’m kinda worried because we have little kids right here."
