Man Shot, Killed After Leaving Birthday Party

Reynaldo Bonoan, 28, was gunned down on the street by a suspect who then fled

Things turned deadly for a man after leaving a child’s birthday party in Otay Mesa on Saturday, May 19.

Police said a man was shot and killed just past 4 p.m. at the 3400 block of Alonquin Way and Churrituck Drive, near Montgomery High School.

The victim, identified by investigators as 28-year-old Reynaldo Bonoan, was attending a child’s birthday party and left briefly to run an errand.

Police said when he returned, Bonoan parked his car on Churrituck Drive. As he was walking back to the birthday party, he was shot in the back by a suspect who then fled the area.

Authorities and paramedics responded and found Bonoan down on the sidewalk. His fiancée had tried to give him CPR until help arrived.

However, Bonoan died a short time later at the scene.

According to police, the shooting suspect who killed Bonoan was described as an 18 to 20-year-old black male wearing a red plaid shirt and long khaki shorts. He’s approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighs 180-pounds.

The suspect was seen fleeing in a white Mitsubishi occupied by three people.

The motive for the murder remains unknown.

“There's no information forthcoming that there was any beef that started at the party and ended up in the street," said SDPD Homicide Unit Lt. Kevin Rooney.

On May 23, Homicide Unit detectives announced that one arrest had been made in Bonoan’s shooting.

According to authorities, officers located the white Mitsubishi getaway car linked to the scene of the crime Saturday evening in the 1100 block of Camino Ternura.

Detectives then located 22-year-old suspect Andrew Oliver one block away from the vehicle in the 1100 block of Camino Regalado.

Detectives identified Oliver as one of the suspects involved in the shooting and he was arrested and charged with robbery and murder.

On May 31, detectives said they arrested a second suspect in connection with Bonoan’s murder.

At about 6 p.m., took a 17-year-old male into custody  for his role in the deadly shooting.

That suspect will be booked into Juvenile Hall.

Authorities are still investigating this case and working to track down the other suspects involved in the shooting.
