Craigslist Shooting Suspect May Be Linked to Similar Robberies

According to a search warrant, Rashon Abernathy, the suspect in the shooting death of Garrett Berki, is also a primary suspect in a similar robbery on May 5, about a week before Berki was killed. Tony Shin reports.

Police are searching for four men who robbed a man responding to a Craigslist ad to purchase two Mac Book computers.

The 21-year-old victim agreed to purchase the two computers and arranged to meet the man at La Mesita Park in La Mesa on Thursday around 8 p.m., police said.

The victim and his friend arrived at the park and saw two men sitting inside a 1996 Honda Accord. When they approached the car to make their purchase, they two men exited the vehicle and brandishing a box cutter and demanded money, investigators said.

The victim handed over $2100. Officers say two other men approached the victim from behind and punched him in the face and jumped into the car with the first two men.

Police say the suspect’s identities are unknown, but they do know the Honda was recently purchased at a Tijuana car dealership.
