Man Dies After Shooting in Skyline-Area Park

San Diego Police are investigating a shooting that killed a man in Marie Wideman Park in the Skyline area.

“I’m still shaken up because there’s no reason for this,” said Barbara Cullins. “Whoever done this to him, they must’ve got the wrong person.”

Cullins was good friends with the victim in the shooting who she described as a homeless man who lived in the park.

Officers found the 41-year-old man on the sidewalk with at least one gunshot wound at approximately 8:15 p.m. Sunday. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.

The shooter may have left the scene in a light colored SUV traveling westbound away from the park, police said.

Officials have not released the victim's identity pending notification of next of kin.
