Man Missing in Mission Trails: Cops

A 41-year-old man was last heard from before going on a hike in the popular hiking area west of Santee

The search for a man reported missing in Mission Trails Regional Park led to the discovery of a man's body.

The man appears to be dead and may have slipped off some rocks according to San Diego Fire and Rescue. However, the man has not been identified as Robert Weissman who was reported missing to San Diego police earlier in the day.

Weissman, 41, hasn't been seen by anyone since Monday at 1 p.m. He called his son saying he was going for a hike at Mission Trails and then heading to work after.

His car was found parked in the parking lot outside a trailhead according to police.

Theresa and Steven Kelly were hiking on the Oak Canyon Trail in the park Monday afternoon where there is a waterfall and rock formation.

On their way down, around 2 p.m., the couple said they passed a man who looks similar to the image police were circulating at the park.

β€œWe’re not sure it’s him but it did look like him,” Theresa Kelly said.

The San Diego police helicopter searched the area and officers set up a command post at the visitors' center.

News that a body had been found in the area was confirmed by San Diego firefighters at 12:20 p.m.

Officers from other agencies like ICE, San Diego County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and DEA assisted in the search.
