Man Makes Threats at MCAS Miramar

North Gate closed while military officials investigate

An unidentified man made threats to guards at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar Wednesday afternoon, forcing the closure of one station gate.

The man approached the North Gate at the Miramar base in a car and made the threats to guards at the gate, according to a MCAS Miramar statement.

The man was detained shortly after and military and local law enforcement officials have searched his vehicle. He was released after it was determined the threats were false.

As a precaution, several residences and workplaces near the North Gate were evacuated as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal crew evaluated.

Shortly after 4:45 p.m., the north gate was reopened and the evacuations lifted.
