A man killed in a fatal motorcycle accident in Escondido was identified Monday as a beloved, active duty Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton.
Steven Michael Cox, 26, and his friend were riding their motorcycles together on San Pasqual Road Sunday afternoon when he lost control and drove off the road, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.
First responders were called to the 18200 block of San Pasqual Valley Road on Sunday at about 4:45 p.m.
When paramedics arrived, they found Cox dead at the scene. The San Pasqual Valley Road was closed from Ramona Highlands Drive to Bandy Canyon Road.
"Brother when I got that call this morning I didn't believe it. I still can't. You and I have been through more together than anyone I know in my life. I love you brother, you were my best friend, and I know you had my back no matter what happened," said Bryan Adams, a close friend of the victim, in a Facebook post.
"From us living together in the same house to watching you leave units and further your career. Man I will never find another brother like you. You were one of a kind to me," continued Adams in the post.
Some of his fellow marines posted a statement in a Facebook group for graduates of Charlie Company - Platoon 1082 that said, "Steven Cox was a presence like no other. I remember all too clearly how he walked around like he owned the whole Marine Corps. I remember his kindness, in the midst of the shared chaos that we all endured together."

"I remember his crooked, infectious smile. Steven has left behind a wife, two daughters and a son," continued the statement. "He will be sorely, painfully missed."
