Man Killed in Accident on I-805

Driver's death is the 1st on SD roadways this holiday weekend

Highway Patrol reports that a 23-year-old male has been killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 805, early morning Saturday.

Around 5:40 a.m. the man's car, headed northbound towards Telegraph Canyon RD, left the roadway and struck an electrical box and tree, according to CHP officials.

The driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger who was in the car at the time of the accident was transported with Mercy Hospital to be  treated for unknown injuries.

The identities of both the driver and passenger were not immediately available. OIfficial's are investgating into the cause of the accident.

The death of the driver marks the first fatality for the weekend on San Diego roadways, and only the 2nd one statewide.
