A bicyclist who fell and hit his head in the Sweetwater Regional Park was rescued by helicopter Sunday morning.

The Sheriff's Department ASTRA helicopter assisted Bonita Fire officials in finding the man, a Heartland dispatcher said. A Sheriff's deputy stayed with the man while a Mercy Air helicopter came in to airlift him to the hospital.

A fire official said the man is not thought to be in critical condition, but did suffer a head injury.

The bicyclist entered the Sweetwater Regional Park bike trail via an access road off San Miguel Road, officials said. He fell shortly before 10:40 a.m. and was located shortly after 11 a.m.
