Man Grabs Woman's Throat, Assaults Her: Police

Suspect faces rape charge after assault reported in Talmadge

A woman walking through an alley in Talmadge was allegedly grabbed by the throat and raped late Thursday night, police said.

An officer responding to a radio call reporting a man beating a woman drove into the alley in the 4500 Altadena Ave. just before 10 p.m. and stopped the suspect, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Authorities later learned the man in his early 40's approached the young woman and demanded sex. The woman refused.

The man then grabbed her by her throat and pushed her up against the wall. Police said he sexually assaulted her before the officer arrived.

When the officer pulled up, he saw the man holding onto the woman and took him into custody.

The suspect was booked into County Jail and now faces a rape charge.

The Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
