Man Found With Stab Wounds Dies at Hospital

A man found stabbed several times on a sidewalk died of his wounds, National City Police Department (NCPD) officers said. 

Eduardo Ortego Jr., 25, of San Diego, was found on the east sidewalk of the 200 block of North Highland Avenue in National City, NCPD officers said. 

Officers initially responded to a report of a possible shooting or stabbing at 11:28 p.m. Saturday near 43rd Street and Delta Street in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood, though reports of a possible shooting were later deemed unfounded. 

Witnesses said Ortega Jr. was involved in an altercation with an adult male before being stabbed. 

The suspect(s) in the stabbing are unknown, police said, though witness descriptions say the suspect was about 30 years old with a medium build and was about 6 feet tall. 

The victim was taken to a local hospital; he was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m. Sunday, officers said. 

The investigation in ongoing.
