Man Found Lying on El Cerrito Road Dies

The man was lying in the middle of the road, for unknown reasons, and was hit by a car

A man discovered lying in the middle of the road in El Cerrito Friday night has died, San Diego Police say.

At 8:20 p.m., someone called 911 to report a body at 54th and Lea streets.

When police arrived, they saw a man in the road. Paramedics tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shoes and a skateboard were found near his body. Investigators are trying to piece together what happened and if the young man was a victim of a hit-and-run.

The San Diego Police Department says witnesses reported seeing the young man cross the street with a skateboard. For unknown reasons, he laid down in one of the lanes.

An oncoming car swerved to avoid hitting the man, but a second vehicle was unable to do the same and wound up running over the man.

That second car did not stop after the collision, police confirmed.

It is unclear if police are treating this case as a hit-and-run. A description of the vehicle that hit the man was not immediately released. The name of the young man who died has also not yet been released.
