A man was found dead inside a Point Loma Heights apartment that is rented by his girlfriend, according to police.
Officers responded to a report of a gunshot heard inside an apartment in the 3800 block of Midway Drive at 9.04 a.m. Monday.
“They arrived and found a 32-year-old male dead inside a ground floor apartment,” said Lt. Kevin Rooney.
The girlfriend was not home when officers arrived, according to police. They say she called officers several minutes later from a different location.
“Because the female left the scene, and the possibility other people also left before officers arrived, the Homicide Unit responded to the scene,” said Lt. Rooney.
It is unclear if the case is a suicide, accidental shooting, or homicide, police said.
The victim's name has not been released pending family notification.
