Man Fatally Struck in Pauma Valley

A man was struck and killed by a car in the middle of a busy highway on Sunday night, according to officials.

The incident happened along state route 76 near Adams Drive in Pauma Valley around 7 p.m.

Authorities said the pedestrian is a 64-year-old Pauma Valley man who lived just down the road from where this happened.

An Escondido woman was driving east bound on state Route 76 when authorities said she struck what she thought was a speed bump. She then called California Highway Patrol and said she hit a man.

According to witnesses the man appeared to have been lying in the middle of the road. The man is a known resident to authorities who has a history of medical issues.

The CHP said that the driver is not facing any criminal charges and was actually driving under the speed limit.

The name of the man will not be released until the Medical Examiner has a chance to alert the family.
